Education against “Adulting”: The Child as Paradigm of the Well-Educated
Presented by Adam Myers | Assistant Professor of Philosophy
For many, college education is about getting your act together for a well-paying job and becoming a responsible adult. In other words, it's part of “adulting.” However, this is a false picture of education. Far from helping us become “responsible adults,” education is about resisting society's attempts to coerce or lure us into unthinking conformity. The paradigm image of someone who resists attempts to be coerced or lured into social conformity is none other than the child.
