Global Issues Series: Historical Trauma of the Japanese Invasion of China

Discover how various works of literature and film confront the trauma of the Japanese invasion and occupation of China during the late 1930's and World War II. This presentation uncovers how important contemporary Chinese, American and British writers and film makers represent this historical event. Artists discussed will include the famous Chinese director Zhang Yimou and acclaimed Chinese-American writer Ha Gin. Through his presentation, Dr. Grove will also explore the historical causes of this massacre and terrific challenges this trauma poses for artists determined to represent its horrors.
