Playing with Fire: Women, Firewood & Climate Change in Rajasthan, India

October 10, 2013 - 7:00pm to 8:30pm | Flaherty Community Room

Women and girls in Rajasthan, India, trek long hours to find and haul firewood—simply to cook a meal. Awareness of this problem prompted Khandelwal and Udaykumar to join together to build an inexpensive and functional solar cooker that would not only address the problem of deforestation but would also reduce women’s workload and result in girls going to school. Khandelwal and Udaykumar will discuss their efforts to trace the ties between forests, energy, gender relations, health, consumption and culture both locally and globally.

This event is free and open to the public.
