Alumni Spotlight: Lisa (Lindmeier) Roughley ’90

Greetings MMU world! My name is Lisa (Lindmeier) Roughley.

As MMU’s first “International” student, hailing from Canada, I graduated in 1990 with a degree in public relations.

I now live and work in magnificent Victoria, British Columbia, running my digital marketing company, Roughley Speaking Communications.

During my years in Cedar Rapids, I had the privilege of representing MMU as part of The Iowa Peace Institute student delegation, established by state leaders who saw the need to look at world issues and peace building. I’m very grateful for the global perspective this provided me, helping greatly with navigating the real world.

Upon graduation, I joined Four Seasons Hotels as PR manager and soon met my handsome hotelier husband. We began our journey, living and working in nine different markets in four countries from the Caribbean to Key Largo, Las Vegas to Lisbon, raising our two beautiful daughters and immersing ourselves into the communities we were welcomed into.

“Mount Mercy is a Catholic University that provides student-focused education in the spirit of the Sisters of Mercy and welcomes people of all beliefs to join our community in pursuit of baccalaureate and graduate education and compassionate service to those in need.”

I’m grateful to MMU for instilling the mission of service. Today, one of my favourite volunteer endeavours is being part of the planning committee for 100 Women Who Care Victoria. The model is simple and makes an immediate positive impact to our city.

I’d like to close with heartfelt thanks to President Tom Feld who was my great mentor. I’m filled with gratitude to exemplary faculty like Sister Augustine Roth and Jim Grove who encouraged focus and staff members like Don McCormick and Lonna Drewelow who inspired growth.

What wonderful experiences and a strong foundation four years at MMU provided.
