MMU to host Fresh Start Jail Ministries Musical Fundraiser Oct. 7

Chapel of Mercy

Mount Mercy University will host a musical fundraiser on Sunday, Oct. 7, at 2:30 p.m. in the on-campus McAuley Auditorium to raise money for Fresh Start Jail Ministries (Linn County Correctional Chaplaincy).

The concert will feature Mount Mercy’s University Choir led by Gerry Kreitzer, director of music activities, and University Band led by Steve Stickney, director of bands. In lieu of an admittance fee, donations are encouraged.

Fresh Start, partnered with local churches and businesses around Linn County, reaches out to correctional facilities to offer spiritual guidance, Bible studies, and weekly worship services to inmates, family, and staff members. An essential part of the ministry, the RISE Program assists those newly released with housing, job interviews, food, clothing and other necessary items. Fresh Start also offers Circles of Support, an adult mentoring program that helps individuals develop meaningful lives in the community.

“The Cedar Rapids community and surrounding areas are fortunate to have over 160 volunteers who reach out spiritually to inmates and Circles of Support,” said Fresh Start Jail Ministries Board Member Emily Devine, RSM. “I would ask that community members join our board in appreciating their contributions and recognizing the need to continue to support this important ministry.”
