Dr. Jan Handler granted emeritus status after 31 years of service

Jan Handler, EdD, was awarded professor emeritus status at the 2018 Mount Mercy University commencement ceremony on May 20 after being a member of the education faculty and provost for 31 years.

Under Jan’s leadership, Mount Mercy strengthened its traditional academic programs and launched numerous new programs, including online bachelor’s and master’s degrees and the university’s first-ever doctoral programs. She was the first Feld Chair and is the author of numerous publications.

Jan’s calm, steady academic leadership is a shining example of the difference one person can make in their community by excelling in their chosen field and sharing their gifts and talents with others. She has encouraged thousands of alumni to push their academic limits in education and mentored countless University faculty members in scholarship, teaching, advising and administration.

Jan will retire this summer after a long, illustrious career in higher education. She has made Mount Mercy a better place and launched many teachers into the world of education who have improved and led our schools—making our entire community better.

Congratulations, Jan!
