SelfEco founder to share lessons learned during sustainable business development

Mount Mercy University will host alumnus Danny Mishek, president and founder of SelfEco, on Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. in the Sisters of Mercy University Center Commons as part of the Barbara A. Knapp Business Speaker Series. Mishek will present “EcoPreneurship: How Businesses Can Make Money and Make a Difference.”

A graduate of Mount Mercy and third generation manufacturer, Mishek is passionate about sharing manufacturing’s benefits with the next generation, while educating and exposing all to the development of greener products. He has been published in several trade magazines and has presented around the world on trends in manufacturing and technology.

“As an alum, I think Mr. Mishek will have a unique opportunity to showcase that it does not take a big university degree to make a big difference in business and the community,” said Dr. Nate Klein, assistant professor of business. “The key to any successful for-profit business is to make a profit so that they can ensure the long-term viability of the corporation—but earning money and paying people a good wage is not mutually exclusive to having a positive impact on the environment. Mr. Mishek’s time at Mount Mercy not only prepared him with the technical business skills to run a business, but the opportunities to learn what it means to lead a courageous life.”

The Barbara A. Knapp Business Speaker Series is named in honor of Mount Mercy Board of Trustees member and retired chair and CEO of SCI Financial Corp., Barbara Knapp. This annual series hosts influential speakers on business-related topics of benefit to the campus and greater community.

In past years, community leaders Rue Patel, Audrey Boone Tillman, Dr. Dolly Plaster Clement, Suku Radia and others have visited campus as a part of the series.

This event is free and open to the public, but space is limited. For more information, contact Professor Nate Klein at
