MMU welcomes 235+ high school singers to campus

Mount Mercy University is set to welcome more than 235 singers to campus Tuesday and Wednesday for its annual All-State Choral Workshop. The workshop, now in its fifth year and expecting more participants than ever, prepares high school students in the Iowa All-State Choral repertoire.

Mount Mercy’s Director of Music Activities Dr. Gerry Kreitzer and distinguished clinicians Bob Anderson, Allen Chapman, Amy Farley, Kent Keating, Duane Philgreen and Carol Tralau will assist the singers in learning notes, rhythms and texts for each piece. The clinicians will also offer coaching in the expression and style of each piece, and offer helpful approaches and demonstrations of the audition process.

“These students are preparing for all-state with some of the most respected and talented music educators in the area,” Kreitzer said. “These two days give the students a tremendous head start. The amount of experience between the six clinicians and myself totals about 210 years, and together we’ve successfully prepared thousands for All-State.”
