Multicultural Fair showcases diverse student body

Mount Mercy University will celebrate its international students and the diverse cultures they represent at the annual Multicultural Fair on Thursday, March 30, from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Sisters of Mercy University Center.

The fair will feature 20 stations, representing many cultures and countries through posters, artifacts, apparel, food and other items. Representatives of local organizations will also be in attendance. All are welcome at this free, family-friendly event.

“The Multicultural Fair is a student favorite because it allows everyone to celebrate diversity and learn new things about cultures from around the world, all in one space,” said David Butts, assistant director of diversity & engagement. “It’s also a chance for our international students to show how proud they are of their background.”

Countries represented at the fair include: Australia, Bahamas, Canada, Congo, Ecuador, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Mexico, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Venezuela, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.

Traditional foods prepared by students and MMU’s dining services will give visitors the chance to explore cultures even further, and door prizes will be awarded during the event.
