2nd Annual Fresh Start Benefit Concert to be held Oct. 16

Mount Mercy University will host a freewill offering benefit concert on Oct. 16 at 2:30 p.m. in Mount Mercy’s Chapel of Mercy to raise money for Fresh Start Jail Ministries.

The concert will feature Mount Mercy’s University Choir, Madrigal Singers, University Band and Handbell Ensemble. In lieu of an admittance fee, freewill donations are encouraged.

The Linn County Correctional Chaplaincy Ministry reaches out to correctional facilities to offer spiritual guidance, Bible studies, Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, and weekly worship services to inmates, family, and staff members. The Rise Program is a part of the ministry and assists those newly released with housing, job interviews, food, clothing and other necessary items. Fresh Start is partnered with local churches and businesses around Linn County.

“The Cedar Rapids community and surrounding areas are fortunate to have over 160 volunteers who reach out spiritually to inmates and circles of support,” said Fresh Start Jail Ministries Board member Emily Devine, RSM. “I would ask that community members join our board in appreciating their contributions and recognizing the need to continue to support this important ministry.”
