Galvez uses moving multimedia presentation to explore current immigration topics

Mount Mercy University will host Photographer José Galvez on Monday, Oct. 3, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Flaherty Community Room as he presents his multi-media lecture “Aquí Estamos – Here We Are.”

Documenting the Latino population in the United States for 40 years, Galvez combines photo presentations with lectures on various topics from the impact of César Chávez and the Chicano movement to recent Latino immigration in southern portions of the United States.

“José has been visiting universities presenting his photographs that portray the life of immigrants in the United States,” said Assistant Professor of Spanish Belkis Suárez. “The audience will be able to hear his experience taking pictures all over the United States while they see the projection of his photographs.”

Free and open to the public, this event is connected to the 2016 Fall Faculty Series – Building Walls, Building Bridges: The U.S. as an Immigrant Nation. Through multiple presentations, performances and stories, Mount Mercy explores what immigration has meant to our Nation’s history as well as what immigration means to us today.
