MMU welcomes three new trustees

Three new trustees were recently elected to the Mount Mercy University Board of Trustees: Ken Brown, Kirk Kaalberg and Mike Wehr ‘03. All three members bring tremendous leadership talent to the board.

Brown serves as chief executive officer of Modern Companies, Inc., and director of Modern Holdings, Inc., based in Cedar Rapids. Prior to being named CEO, Brown was president and project manager for Modern Piping, Inc. He is responsible for much of the company’s growth, expanding into multiple entities including sheet metal, compressed air, building controls and automation, and its newest addition, FabPro LLC, a software company.

Kaalberg held a variety of management positions at Teleconnect, TelecomUSA and MCI from 1983 through 1989. He joined McLeodUSA as the company’s third employee in 1990 and held management positions, including president of Network Services. In 2000, Kaalberg joined Aavin Equity Advisors as senior partner. He is currently on the boards of Archon, AdTrack, Moss Enterprises, and is Chairman of the Board for Limolink, Inc.

Wehr, a 2003 graduate of Mount Mercy, currently serves as the chief operating officer at Raining Rose in Cedar Rapids. Beginning with the company directly out of college, Wehr has served as sales manager and vice president of sales and operations. He is involved with numerous community boards and a member of the university’s alumni board.

“We are fortunate to have these three individuals join the Mount Mercy community as trustees,” said University President Laurie Hamen, J.D.  “They bring talent, energy and a wealth of knowledge that will add even more depth to the board’s important work. I look forward to working with them to advance Mount Mercy’s crucial mission of academic excellence and compassionate service.”
