The generosity of Mount Mercy’s community was apparent during a recent Water Portal class fundraiser for Burundi, Africa. Students asked peers to contribute the amount they would typically spend at a vending machine, and by the end of the effort, Mount Mercy students, staff and faculty had donated a total of nearly $1,300 to provide clean drinking water to an African village.
The dollars will be given to Friendly Water for the World, an organization that provides BioSand water filters to villages in need of clean water supplies. Thanks to the gifts collected, 450 children will receive clean water and basic sanitation in a village that has neither.
“Thank you to everybody who volunteered to help the Water Portal class raise money for clean drinking water in Burundi,” said Instructor Joy Ochs. “I want you to know that your efforts made a difference.”
