Mount Mercy Mission and Ministry staff reflect on Pope Francis as Time’s Person of the Year

“It’s an invigorating day for the Church and Mount Mercy as a Catholic University” responds Director of Campus Ministry Bill Mulcahey to the Dec. 11 announcement of Pope Francis, The People’s Pope as Time Magazine’s Person of the Year.

Since becoming leader of the Catholic Church less than a year ago, Pope Francis has shown a spirit of mercy and compassion that has inspired the world and transcended denominations.

“The Holy Father reminds us all through his gospel-inspired leadership how truly powerful a deep and sincere concern for poor, hungry, migrating and marginalized persons can be,” says Executive Director for Mission and Ministry Sr. Shari Sutherland. “There is great hope and excitement for the future as Pope Francis responds to the needs of our time as the Sisters of Mercy have articulated through the Critical Concerns.”
