Mount Mercy University’s Registrar’s Office is hosting a donation drive in support of patients at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City. New and unopened travel-size personal hygiene products may be donated.
“Items like trial-size shampoo and soap will help make a veteran’s stay more comfortable,” stated Kim Blankenheim, academic records specialist. “This drive is our way of showing support for those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom.”
The donation drive starts on Nov. 11, Veterans Day, and will end on Nov. 26. Contributions may be placed in the blue donation bins located throughout campus.
The VA Medical Center has been serving veterans needs since 1952. The Center operates 83 beds, including 43 medicine/neurology beds, 25 surgery beds and 15 psychiatry beds. In addition to the main facility in Iowa City, it offers services in ten community-based outpatient clinics, reaching more than 184,000 veterans living in 50 counties.
