A recent edition of the Czech Heritage Foundation’s Newsletter, Naše České Dědictví, featured Dr. Jitka Stehnova, assistant professor of mathematics at Mount Mercy University.
An avid volleyball player, Stehnova moved from her home in Prague, Czech Republic, to pursue her education in the United States on an athletic scholarship. After earning her doctorate and holding a position as a visiting assistant professor at Oklahoma State University, Stehnova was hired as a faculty member at Mount Mercy in 2009. On campus, Stehnova serves in a variety of roles including advisor of the Mount Mercy Math Club. During her tenure, she has also worked alongside other faculty members to develop and promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) initiatives such as ExploreU@MMU, a program designed to help young girls learn math and computer science skills while having fun.
