The Five Seasons Chamber Music Festival was founded in 2003 by Suzanne Wagor, Timothy Shiu and Richard Wagor to offer the Cedar Rapids community unique musical entertainment and educational opportunities. Instruction will be provided by 16 professional music faculty members as well as 11 college interns, who will guide student musicians ranging from middle school through retirees. Students sit side by side with their instructors in the orchestra, making for intense learning throughout every section.
Festival Artistic Director Suzanne Wagor will be joined by colleagues from across the United States and Paris for the event.
"This event is very special to me as it was designed with the intention of providing Cedar Rapids with musical opportunities that I would have liked to experience growing up in the city," Suzanne Wagor said. "It's a wonderful opportunity for Cedar Rapids to see talent from across the country come together for a week of learning and sharing the joys of music."
Wagor resides in New York City, where she plays chamber music and teaches at the New York School for Strings, New York Youth Symphony, and the Lucy Moses and Special Music School of the Kaufman Music Center in New York. She previously played principal viola for the Cedar Rapids Symphony and taught at Coe College and the Cedar Rapids Symphony School. She has studied at The Julliard School in New York, Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, San Francisco Conservatory, and Guildhall School of Music in London.
