Mount Mercy University announced today that Melody A. Graham, Ph.D., has been named provost, after serving as acting provost since July 2011. Her new role will take effect September 1, 2012.

Graham was appointed acting provost in 2011 after successfully overseeing the launch of Mount Mercy’s graduate programs and playing an integral role in Mount Mercy’s HLC accreditation process. Under Graham’s leadership as acting provost, the university launched new online courses and underwent a cumulative review of all academic majors. As provost, Graham will serve as chief academic officer, chief student development officer and head of university planning.

“Dr. Graham’s deep-rooted commitment and vision for our Mercy education and her extensive history of institutional knowledge make her perfectly suited for this new role,” says Mount Mercy President Christopher Blake. “She has already proven herself a transformative leader and enthusiastic advocate of the institution’s academic integrity, and we look forward to achieving new milestones under her leadership.”

Graham has been with Mount Mercy since 1991. Her many leadership roles and accomplishments include serving as department chair in 1997- 2002 and serving twice as social science division Chair. She was appointed director of academic assessment in 2000, held the Feld Endowed Chair for Teaching Excellent in 2006 – 08, and was appointed dean of graduate studies in 2007, where she oversees Mount Mercy’s graduate programs in business, education, nursing and marriage and family therapy.
