Artwork of Jose Clemente to premiere in Janalyn Hanson White Gallery September 7

Mount Mercy's Janalyn Hanson White Gallery will showcase the digital photographs of Assistant Professor of Art Jose Clemente during a special exhibit titled "Digital Color and Texture." The exhibit runs September 7 – October 7, Monday – Friday, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.

An artist talk will be held at 4:00 p.m. at September 7 in Lundy Hall's Lundy 3, with an opening reception to immediately follow in the gallery at 5:00 p.m.

Clemente's artwork cleverly balances elements of traditional design with contemporary forms. His creativity is largely inspired by culture and history, and it is his love of color and texture that breathes energy into his images. Through his use of deep textures, strong lines and bold colors, Clemente's art encourages audiences to experience each piece's expression of "Life."

Clemente earned both his Bachelor of Fine Arts, and his Master of Fine arts in visual communication from Kansas State University. His teaching experiences include drawing, painting, design, computer imaging and graphic design.

The Janalyn Hanson White Gallery serves as a special venue to showcase regional and national artists, students' capstone projects, the local talent of area high schools, and many other exhibitors. Thanks to an endowment from the Tim and Jan White family, the gallery has been renovated and offers enhanced exhibition space. The gallery has month-long exhibitions of nationally and regionally known artists who apply years in advance to exhibit in the gallery. Visiting artists often come to meet with students and give lectures during the exhibit's opening reception. In recent months, exhibitions of painting, drawing, digital video interactive works, installation, fiber arts, printmaking, sculpture and video by artists from New York City, Chicago, Minneapolis, Mexico, and London have been on display in the gallery.

The Janalyn Hanson White Gallery is open:
Monday – Friday | 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Viewings outside of normal business hours can be arranged by checking out a gallery key from the University Center Information Desk, or by calling 319-363-8213.
