The course will allow Mount Mercy graduate students the chance to partner with ProWorld Belize, a 12-year-old social enterprise that offers volunteer abroad opportunities for individuals and groups in developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Students in the course will gain hands-on experience consulting with entrepreneurs and small business leaders in the region as they assist with marketing plans.
Walker, who traveled June 17 – 24, collaborated with representatives from Toledo Association of Businesses, a regional organization of entrepreneurs, and established connections with several of the local business professionals Mount Mercy students will be partnering with during the trip, including eco-tourism operators, a dried fruit factory, and an internet café.
“I am inspired by the connections made during this trip and look forward to experiencing this opportunity with our MBA students,” says Walker. “Getting the chance to offer our resources and expertise to the local Punta Gorda community will be a once in a lifetime academic experience, and I know our students will come back with a new and rich perspective on life.”
