Mount Mercy aligns with Sisters of Mercy on healthcare statement

SealMount Mercy University President Christopher Blake issued a statement today that Mount Mercy stands with the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas and is in agreement with their statement released today concerning the regulatory mandate on contraception in affordable healthcare.

As stated on the Sisters of Mercy website:

The Sisters of Mercy of the Americas are disappointed in the ruling by the United States Department of Health and Human Services that will require most health insurance plans to cover preventive services for women including recommended contraceptive services without charge. This ruling currently only exempts a narrowly-defined portion of religious institutions from compliance. Catholic healthcare facilities, educational institutions and social service ministries would be required to provide their employees with coverage for these services.

“As an institution whose mission is grounded in the vision and values of the Sisters of Mercy, Mount Mercy stands in agreement with the statement issued today from the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas regarding the ruling on healthcare coverage,” says Blake.
