Mount Mercy professor awarded Iowa Psychological Association Meritorious Achievement Award

Mount Mercy Professor of Psychology Dr. Don Damsteegt was awarded the 2011 Meritorious Achievement Award from the Iowa Psychological Association (IPA).

The IPA Meritorious Achievement Award honors an IPA member for outstanding service to the association. Outstanding service may be a single major contribution or may refer to a consistent history of service over a longer period of time. Damsteegt was commended for his longtime leadership with the state association, first as a member of its Executive Council, then as its president, and for the past six years as its Public Education Committee chair.

Damsteegt has served at Mount Mercy since 1981. He is a member of the Iowa Psychological Association, the American Psychological Association, the Society for Personality Assessment, and Imago Relationship International.

He serves on the Foundation 2 Board of Directors and has assisted with Habitat for Humanity's building projects. He also teaches Sunday school at Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he is a member.

Damsteegt holds a Ph.D. and a Master of Arts from the University of Nebraska, a Master of Divinity from Western Theological Seminary, and a Bachelor of Arts from Hope College.
