Fritz McDonald named Assistant Vice President for Communications and Marketing

Mount Mercy University has named Fritz McDonald assistant vice president for communications and marketing, effective April 18, 2011.

A seasoned senior manager, McDonald brings with him more than 25 years of professional marketing, creative strategy, writing, speaking and teaching experience – and 15 years of higher education marketing experience from Stamats, Inc., one of the leading higher education marketing companies in the nation.

As assistant vice president, McDonald will oversee the institution's overall marketing, brand management, public relations and communications strategies. His responsibilities will include the planning, design, implementation and evaluation of the public relations and marketing programs; as well as for the development, writing and editing of various Mount Mercy collateral pieces, including the Mount Mercy Magazine.

Prior to joining Mount Mercy, McDonald served as principal of the consulting firm create20, offering clients creative content strategy and development for film, video, web, print and social media.

McDonald served in several leadership roles while at Stamats, including vice president for creative strategy, creative director and editorial director. At Stamats he helped lead the creative and interactive departments, providing vision and direction and serving as a member of the Executive Council. He championed strategic creative and social media strategies through blogging, speaking engagements, webinars and professional publications, providing external leadership to help clients shape communication, brand and social media strategies.

McDonald has presented at numerous national and international conferences, including the ACT national conference, the CASE regional conferences, the eduWEB national conference and the Grant Wood AEA Young Writers' Conference.

Originally from California, McDonald holds a Master of Fine Arts in fiction from the prestigious Writers' Workshop at The University of Iowa and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of California, Los Angeles.
