Archdiocese appoints Mount Mercy Chaplain

By the request of Dr. Christopher Blake of Mount Mercy, Archbishop Jerome Hanus of Dubuque has approved the appointment of Father Dustin L. Vu as part-time chaplain at Mount Mercy. He will begin his duties July 13.  Fr. Vu will replace Mount Mercy’s chaplain Father Nick B. March, who has been appointed to serve as pastor of Christ Our Hope Cluster in Northeast Iowa.

In addition to his ministry at Mount Mercy, Father Vu will continue his other roles as pastor of John XXIII parish in southwest Cedar Rapids, Parochial Administrator of St. Patrick parish in Fairfax, part-time chaplain at Xavier High School and Associate Director of Vocation Awareness for the Archdiocese of Dubuque.

Fr. Vu and his parents came to the United States from South Vietnam in 1990.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the University of Minnesota and a Masters of Divinity from St. Paul Seminary, Minn.  Fr. Vu was ordained on June 26, 2004.  He previously served as Associate Pastor at St. Pius X parish in Cedar Rapids and Resurrection Parish in Dubuque.

“I know the campus community will join me in welcoming and congratulating Fr. Dustin Vu on this important campus position,” says President Christopher Blake.  “We wish him every blessing as he prepares for his ministry at Mount Mercy and developing our Catholic, Mercy identity and mission. We wish Fr. March every success and blessing in his ongoing work and we will miss his presence and ministry here on campus.”
