Mount Mercy presents annual Multicultural Fair

Mount Mercy will hold its annual Iowa Immigration Heritage Multicultural Fair on Monday, April 19 from 3:00 – 7:30 p.m. The fair, which takes place in Betty Cherry Heritage Hall, is free and open to the public.

In addition to food, arts and crafts representing the cultures of Mount Mercy’s international students, there will also be entertainment such as Brazilian dancers, Latin America music and dances, and Irish ballet dancing. Guests will also have an opportunity to take a practice Citizenship Test in Lundy.

Special guest speaker Dr. John Chaimov will offer the keynote address at 6:00 p.m. in Mount Mercy’s McAuley Theatre, followed by a panel session of Iowa refugees. Mount Mercy’s many international students will showcase their country at special booths during the fair.

Chaimov serves as associate professor of German and director of off-campus study at Coe College. He is currently teaching the German classes “Life During Wartime,” and “Ghosts of Madness,” as well as a first year seminar “Aliens,” and “Introduction to International Studies.” He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California San Diego and a Master of Arts and Ph.D., from the University of Chicago.
