Mount Mercy announced today that Scott Baumler has been named Dean of Admissions. He will begin his duties May 17, 2010.
As Dean of Admissions, Baumler will be responsible for planning and implementing effective recruitment strategies to attract undergraduate students, lead Mount Mercy’s admissions team, and coordinate with faculty, staff and students to reach institutional enrollment goals. Baumler will provide strategic direction and oversee the planning and implementation of tactical recruitment plans, as well as develop enrollment strategies to realize Mount Mercy’s strategic planning goals. Baumler will monitor and adjust Mount Mercy’s recruitment strategies to address shifts in external admissions trends, as well as collaborate with the Office of Communications and Marketing in implementing effective marketing plans.
Prior to joining Mount Mercy, Baumler served as director of institutional research at Grinnell College, with responsibilities pertaining to admission and financial aid, in addition to campus-wide institutional research. While at Grinnell, Baumler also led research efforts across the College in support of assessment and planning, and provided data, evaluation, and benchmarking services for academic and administrative units.
Baumler is a member of the Higher Education Data Sharing Consortium Board of Directors, participated on the Enhancing the Student Experience proposal review committee, and served on the U.S. News Advisory Committee for the Association for Institutional Research, among others.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural business from Iowa State University, Public Affairs Journalism from the U.S. Army, and a Master of Science in policy analysis from Penn State University.
