The Mount Mercy Times wins eight ICMA Better Newspaper Contest awards
The Mount Mercy Times, a student-run publication, won eight awards at the annual Iowa College Media Association Better Newspaper Contest awards ceremony held on February 4 during the ICMA and concurrent Iowa Newspaper Association annual conventions. This represents the most awards ever won during the ICMA competition by The Mount Mercy Times, including two first-place recognitions for editorial leadership and best sports story.
The Times staff earned first place for editorial leadership for a staff editorial by Bob Jameson, campus editor; first place for best sports story, written by Brian Heinemann, editor in chief; second place for general excellence; second place for best multimedia slide show for aTimes TV package by Jenny Valliere, video editor; second place for best coverage of a First Amendment issue for a story by Katerina Stepnickova, last year’s campus editor; second place for best profile, written by Erika Brighi, last year’s managing editor; third place for best page one design by Kayla McIntyre, managing editor; and third place for opinion writing for columns written by Jameson.
