Mount Mercy & Cedar Rapids

Cedar Rapids — an ideal college city.

Mount Mercy is proud to be part of the friendly, tight-knit Iowa community of Cedar Rapids. Many of our students come from the greater Cedar Rapids region, and many of our graduates make their lives here. Visit any hospital, school or local business and you’re sure to meet some Mustangs.

What We Give

Mount Mercy students have a strong reputation for compassionate service. Our neighbors are used to seeing teams of students in matching T-shirts cleaning up a highway or participating in Project America, a day of service set aside for the elderly and disabled. In the wake of the devastating 2008 floods, we donated our campus facilities to the National Guard, and 100 Mount Mercy faculty, staff and students — some of whom had lost homes and businesses in the flood — volunteered 3,600 hours to support the Red Cross and other aid organizations.

What We Gain

Of course, Cedar Rapids also “serves” Mount Mercy students. First of all, it’s simply a great place to live. Cedar Rapids is a safe, active, and cultured Midwestern town full of museums, professional sports, concerts, theatre, green spaces and great restaurants. It’s also a vibrant business community, which means lots of internships for Mount Mercy students and great jobs when they graduate. Local business value Mount Mercy students for their hands-on liberal arts training and demonstrated leadership skills.

Partners in Success

Mount Mercy is invested in the success of Cedar Rapids. Our $25 million operating budget directly translates into a local economic impact of $75 million a year. We’re proud to see so many Mount Mercy graduates in leadership positions within Cedar Rapids companies and organizations. Through their success and ongoing commitment to service, our alumni are our best ambassadors for a Mercy education.
