Professor of Philosophy Mary Ducey joined Mount Mercy in 1994. Prior to coming to Mount Mercy she taught at St. Louis University, as well as Catholic University of America, Avila College, Rockhurst College, and Webster College. She also has experience teaching high school math and theology.

In addition to teaching at Mount Mercy. Ducey has also become a popular lecturer in the eastern Iowa area , giving talks on various topics in churches of different denominations and other venues. Her artical on the topic of Mercy in the works of J. R. R. Tolkien will be published in 2014.

In her spare time Ducey enjoys gardening, needlework, being an aunt, keeping up with the St. Louis Cardinals, and staying involved in her parish. She also moderates a website on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien.
