Management majors have a strong interest in leading and supervising others. Students who are good communicators and organizers, who enjoy working with and leading others are a great fit for the management major. Organizations need dynamic individuals who can work in teams, plan for the future and inspire the loyalty and commitment of their employees. Management majors are interested in the dynamic and competitive business field and the broad social needs of our nonprofit sector. Mangers work within their companies and with other leaders and organizations in their community to provide the goods and services necessary for a growing economy.
The management degree prepares students for careers in almost any type of organization. Our alumni work in many diverse fields. Common fields include work such as department managers in large and small firms, logistics and planning coordinators, procurement analysts, store managers, transportation and delivery coordinators, financial planners, project leaders, recruiting coordinators, and office managers to name just a few examples. Some majors have started their careers locally in such companies as GreatAmerica Leasing, Tranamerica, Rockwell Collins, Orchestra Iowa, Boy Scouts, ImOn, Go Daddy, HyVee, Catherine’s, General Mills and many more. We have alumni all over the country at Aflack, Pearson, and Kraft to just name a few.
Students are encouraged to participate in internship opportunities to gain hands-on experience and a chance to apply classroom education in a real-world environment. Past opportunities have included Frontier, Boy Scouts, GreatAmerica Leasing, Transamerica, Rockwell Collins, and many more.
Mount Mercy has a long history with our sister college Palacky University, in Olomouc, Czech Republic, and many MMU students have spent a semester studying there. Through a partnership with the CIMBA program, business students have the opportunity to student for a semester in Italy. The Business Department has a travel course during winter term every other year, which takes students to England, France and Germany.
Our general business club, Enactus, give students the opportunity to work with businesses in the community and many service projects. Our Enactus team has won many awards for their presentations and service. Several of our Enactus leaders got their first jobs when executives of companies saw them in action. Students also enjoy Mount Mercy’s Investment Club and Human Resource Management Club.
