Professor of Education Jane Rohner has been teaching education at Mount Mercy since 1992. She served as the chair of the Education Division for seven years and is currently assessment coordinator.
Rohner taught for the West Liberty Community School District, as well as for the University of Iowa for six years as a teaching assistant. Before she became a teacher she was president of a small business and served on the City Council of West Liberty, Iowa.
Rohner is a member of numerous affiliations, including the International Reading Association, Iowa Reading Association, National Council of Teachers of English and Language Arts, Book Links, Iowa Association of Colleges of Teacher Education, and Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD).
She has received the Reading Administration of the Year Award and the Golden Apple Award for Outstanding Teaching, as well as the Outstanding Teaching Award from the University of Iowa for two consecutive years.
Rohner enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, knitting, and volunteering with America Reads and Reading is Fundamental (RIF). She is also busy with research involving the dispositional characteristics required to be an effective teacher. Rohner teaches Children's Literature, Reading and Language Arts Methods, Storytelling, An Invitation to Teaching, Education Leadership Seminar, and supervises student teachers.
