Human Resource Management Program Features

Human resource management majors are interested in gaining the knowledge and skills needed to manage and lead company employees. The major can also help students prepare for the human resource management certification programs (PHR and GPHR) that are available through the Society of Human Resource Management.

Job Possibilities
The major prepares students for such careers in human resources such as director, manager, or assistant. Human resource management majors have held positions with companies like Transamerica, Rockwell Collins, GreatAmerica Leasing, and True North after graduation.

Students are encouraged to share their best work with the community through the university’s Scholarship Festival, a day-long showcase of research projects. Past human resource management majors have presented on topics like workplace wellness.

Students have interned at Rockwell Collins, Transamerica, True North, ESP International, GreatAmerica Leasing, and Frontier Natural Products along with many others.

Student Clubs
The primary purpose of the nationally recognized Students in Human Resources Management Club (SIHRM) is to provide educational and social opportunities for students to learn about the human resources industry through association with members of the Eastern Iowa Human Resources Association (EIHRA) and the local Iowa Senior Human Resource Association (IASHRA) Chapter. SIHRM upholds the values instilled in Mount Mercy University by the Sisters of Mercy by continuing a great tradition of service; especially through roles as volunteers.
