Through endless victories, national titles, and glory, our outdoor athletes have never had a “home” of their own. To simply practice and play, we must rent alternative spaces scattered throughout Cedar Rapids, making it difficult for athletes to train, compete, and create enthusiasm for their sport and university.
With the acquisition of 22 acres of land adjacent to main campus, MMU can now develop a premier outdoor athletic complex and finally give our outdoor athletes something they’ve never had – a home field advantage.
When complete, the athletic complex will provide a permanent home field for baseball, softball, men’s and women’s track and field, and men’s and women’s soccer – 6 of the university’s 15 intercollegiate athletic teams. View a 3D walkthrough of the athletic complex.
The new athletic complex will:
- Enrich campus life for all students
- Increase Mount Mercy spirit and attendance at home events
- Enhance student engagement and purpose
- Provide students with lifetime fitness skills
- Heighten alumni loyalty, involvement and support
- Revitalize a deteriorating industrial space for a more vibrant neighborhood
With a total projected cost of $15 million, the athletic complex will require significant donor support. The university has been awarded a $4 million matching grant from The Hall-Perrine Foundation. However, to receive the full grant, Mount Mercy must raise $8 million in private gift commitments by December 31, 2015.
Home Field Advantage, a campaign to support the athletic complex, is your opportunity to help Mount Mercy meet this financial need and invest in the continued growth of our University and our students. Join us today for greener pastures for our Mustangs tomorrow!
