Financial Aid Counselor

Mount Mercy University is a Catholic, coeducational University founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1928 enrolling approximately 1800 students. The University offers a variety of liberal arts, professional, accelerated and graduate degree programs on a picturesque campus overlooking the city.

Mount Mercy University is seeking candidates to fill the position of Financial Aid Counselor in the Student Financial Services Office. This position reports to the Director of Financial Aid and is a full-time, exempt position.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Counsel students and parents on financial aid funding options available, the billing process, loan eligibility issues including grade level and limits and dropping classes.
  • Package incoming and current students with financial aid awards as well as making adjustments to packages due to enrollment changes.
  • Responsible for completing verification of federal student aid applications.
  • Perform withdrawal calculations and complete student exit paperwork.
  • Assist with presentations such as exit and entrance counseling, registration days, scholarship day, etc.
  • Serve as a back-up to the front desk; this includes covering the phones, assisting with walk-ins and taking cash payments.
  • Maintain industry best practices by staying up to date on federal and state changes.


  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance or education preferred.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills to provide exceptional customer service to students, faculty and staff.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Capability of paying close attention to detail.
  • Prior experience working in financial aid or higher education is preferred.
