Shawna Patterson, RN-BSN Chair, assistant professor of nursing, and director of RN-BSN recruitment, joined Mount Mercy in 2021.

Shawna previously worked as an advanced practice nurse in the acute adult division at UnityPoint-St. Luke’s Hospital. She was responsible for the development and implementation of research-based improvement plans, educational needs, and various policies and procedures.

Shawna held the positions of registered nurse supervisor, interim manager, multi-specialty supervisor, and nurse house supervisor at UnityPoint-St. Luke’s.

Shawna is a member of the following organizations:

She was selected for the 100 Great Iowa Nurses program in 2021, underscoring her status as a leader in the field.

Shawna also serves as an adjunct nursing instructor at Kirkwood Community College. In her spare time she enjoys anything outdoors, home improvement projects, reading, painting, and spending time with her family.
