Dr. Timothy G. Laurent joined Mount Mercy in June 2018 as provost and vice president for academic affairs. 

As provost, Dr. Laurent oversaw Mount Mercy’s faculty and academic operations including undergraduate and graduate programs, the registrar’s office, library services, the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE), and institutional research and data. Dr. Laurent led the implementation of four undergraduate majors, multiple graduate areas of emphasis, the Feld Chair for Innovation, and the Degree in Three and MMU Plus programs at Mount Mercy.  

From 2012-2017, Dr. Laurent served as the vice president for academic affairs at the University of Providence in Great Falls, Montana. He oversaw all aspects of academic affairs including the academic budget, faculty development, and the registrar. Dr. Laurent also served as project coordinator to procure multiple million-dollar grants.

Prior to his role at the University of Providence, Dr. Laurent served as associate dean for academic affairs at the University of Lynchburg from 2007-2012 where he developed institution-wide assessments and faculty development funds, and oversaw the Southern Association Colleges and Schools Accreditation process.

Dr. Laurent began his professional career in higher education at Winona State University in Minnesota as an adjunct faculty member. He then served as head athletic trainer and faculty member at Saint Mary’s University and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

A published author and researcher, Dr. Laurent has extensive experience with professional and regional accreditation.

Dr. Laurent holds a doctorate in education administration from Ball State University, a master’s in athletic training from the University of Arizona, and a bachelor’s in athletic training/health education from Indiana University.
