Mount Mercy University’s 2012 fall production of The Crucible played to a sold out audience over its three-night run. Set in the round with seating on stage, audience members had a uniquely intimate opportunity to observe the 1692 world of the Salem witch trials.
The production marks the first time Mount Mercy University has participated in the prestigious Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF). On opening night, representatives from KCACTF attended the performance and met with members of the cast and crew afterwards to provide value feedback. Specific feedback was given in all areas including acting, directing, stage management, and ushering, as well as elements such as lighting, props, costumes, and set design.
Out of the 18-member cast, three actors were nominated for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship as a result of their outstanding performances. The Mount Mercy University nominees are:
Taylor Foster – John Proctor, junior communication studies major
Casey Gaul – Mary Warren, senior nursing major
Jarod Heims – Reverend Parris, junior math major
The nominees will compete at the 2011-12 Region V festival in Lincoln, Nebraska, January 20-26, 2013. At the festival, all interested students will have the chance to participate in workshops such as acting, playwriting, set design, and student directing.
