Maintenance Staff Position

Mount Mercy University is a Catholic, coeducational University founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1928 enrolling approximately 1450 students. The University offers a variety of liberal arts, professional, accelerated and graduate degree programs on a picturesque campus overlooking the city.

Position Summary & Qualifications

Mount Mercy University is currently seeking candidates to fill the position of Maintenance Technician for the Facilities Department. This is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position with full benefits including tuition remission, 401(k) matching, health and dental insurance, and more.

As a member of the Maintenance Staff at Mount Mercy University, you are responsible for maintaining the physical plant of the university at the highest level possible. This position requires but not limited to:

  • Repair and maintenance of areas assigned to you.
  • Boiler operator certified or willing to attain certification within first year.
  • Must be available for a rotational basis ON-CALL including some night and weekend work.
  • Overtime may be required for maintenance emergencies, severe weather conditions, and special events.
  • Will have frequent lifting up to 60 lbs. and with a partner lifting to 100 lb.
  • Possess a valid Iowa Driver’s license.

In addition, the Maintenance Staff Employee will:

  • Supervise assigned student employees.
  • Be part of the team responsible for snow removal on campus properties.
  • Be responsible for completing work orders assigned in a timely manner.

Special Skills, but not required:

  • Be proficient or willing to learn proper painting processes for interior and exterior surfaces of the campus as needed.
  • Be proficient or willing to learn, types of campus buildings and grounds repair and maintenance techniques tasks including but not limited to, plumbing, electrical, construction, and snow removal.
  • Be willing to assist fellow employees and/or contractors, if required, with boiler, HVAC and preventative maintenance tasks.
