Director of Health Services

Mount Mercy University is a Catholic, coeducational university founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1928 enrolling approximately 1850 students. The university offers a variety of liberal arts, professional, accelerated and graduate degree programs on a picturesque campus overlooking the city.

Mount Mercy University is seeking candidates to fill the director of health services role on campus. This position reports to the Vice President for Student Success in collaboration with our well-respected Martin-Herold College of Nursing & Health (MHCNH) and is a full-time role time exempt role during the academic year with the months of June/July off.

The director will serve a diverse student population of both residential and commuter students through direct health support while engaging with the greater campus to educate our community about physical well-being. The director will also collaborate with the MHCNH faculty and staff to build a community focused on well-being.

The ideal candidate should possess a familiarity with the developmental and physical needs of young adults in the process of attaining higher education. They will promote and represent the student services area and Mount Mercy University in a professional manner at all times and enhance the strong tradition of well-being support at Mount Mercy University while contributing to the Sisters of Mercy tradition of educating the whole person.

Ideal candidates should possess experience in nursing in a clinical setting with a strong preference for experience providing direct health service to traditional undergraduate student populations. This position requires an individual to be proactive and take the lead on initiatives in collaboration with both the Student Services team and greater Mount Mercy University community.

Knowledge, Skills AND Abilities:

  • Successful experience in providing direct health service support for traditional undergraduate students (residential and commuter populations).
  • Demonstrated experience and credentials to provide direct consultation to students.
  • Proven experience providing programming and education to address well-being within a community environment.
  • High level of initiative, planning, communication, and organizational skills including demonstrated abilities to properly document a client case load.
  • Extensive experience using positive personal relationship and community building skills to motivate exceptional performance with student leaders and community members.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and lead programs.

Education

  • The director must be a Registered Nurse; Master’s degree in Nursing and/or health related field preferred, and be licensed in the state of Iowa.

Experience

  • At least three years of relevant experience is preferred, one of which must be as a licensed nurse in a clinical setting. Experience in physical health and wellness education and in managing a college or university health services area is preferred.

Licenses:

  1. A valid Health/Nursing License is required. The person in this position must meet all ongoing requirements to maintain a Nursing License as set forth by the Iowa Board of Nursing.
  2. A valid driver’s license is required.
