Day Custodial Supervisor

Mount Mercy University is a Catholic, coeducational University founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1928 enrolling approximately 1800 students.  The University offers a variety of liberal arts, professional, accelerated and graduate degree programs on a picturesque campus overlooking the city.

Mount Mercy University is currently seeking candidates to fill the position of Day Custodial Supervisor.  This is a full-time, exempt (salary) position.

As the Day Custodial Supervisor, you are an integral part of the success of the operation.  You must demonstrate strong leadership skills as well as good judgment and character.  It is part of your responsibility to ensure we provide prompt, professional service.  Maintaining a positive, eager work force is considered extremely important. 

In addition, you will be responsible for:

  • Training custodial employees in the proper methods of cleaning, sanitizing and floor care.
  • Filling in when possible for employees that are absent from work.
  • Working with the Facilities Operations Manager and Night Custodial Supervisor to establish PM work orders for all our custodial equipment.
  • Continuously refining work-order flow process.
  • Reviewing all custodial work orders assigned to the day shift.
  • Assembling the summer custodial project schedule with the Facilities Operations Manager’s recommendations.
  • Resource all in-house summer custodial projects.
  • Take applications for and conduct initial interviews for all new custodial staff.
  • Review all vacation requests from custodial staff and recommend approval or disapproval and forward requests to the Facilities Operations Manager.
  • Participate in the hiring, disciplinary action and annual evaluation of Custodians.
  • Conduct monthly maintenance/safety training.
  • Perform required inspections.
  • Manage Inventories and order parts/supplies when necessary.
  • Maintain the PO# program and make improvements.
  • Track arriving custodial orders and check for QC.
  • Stock all items in the warehouse.
  • Maintain files for each building of custodial related issues.
