Assistant Professor of Biology/Ecology

Mount Mercy University invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Biology with an emphasis in ecology, conservation, and sustainability to begin August 2021 or January 2022. We seek a student-centered, enthusiastic, collaborative, and innovative colleague.

Ideal candidates will have a broad background in the ecological sciences and proven teaching skills. A Ph.D. in Biology, Ecology or a related field is required for a tenure-track position. Applicants with a Master’s degree may be considered for a non-tenure track position. Responsibilities include teaching a wide range of undergraduate biology courses (such as Ecology, Global Environmental Issues, Animal Behavior, Introduction to Sustainability and Introductory Biology courses) with potential to teach specialized courses in field of specialization. There is an expectation of scholarship with undergraduate students.

Excellence in teaching is a top priority for this position. Faculty are expected to teach approximately 5-6 courses per academic year. Other responsibilities include undergraduate advising, research with undergraduate students, and curriculum development with the goal of enhancing the existing outdoor conservation program or addition of new programs focused on the environmental sciences and sustainability. Successful candidates will also be expected to form and maintain community partnerships within the local area to increase visibility of the program and create internship opportunities for students.
