Political Science Job Possibilities

A major in political science will allow you to pursue a wide range of career opportunities. Educational institutions, international, state, and local governments are prime employers of political science majors. Public administration, foreign service, and journalism are also options you may wish to pursue.

Some career paths will require an advance degree in addition to a BA in political science, while others do not require further studies. 

No advance degree: Legal assistant/paralegal (private law firm), teacher (secondary education), social worker (state, local agency), probation officer (criminal justice agency), campaign organizer (political party, candidate), research assistant (state legislature), lobbyist (private lobbying firm), activist/advocate (advocacy group), editor, reporter, blogger (media), politician.

With advance degree (M.A./M.S., Ph.D., or J.D.): lawyer (private law firm, public defender), policy analyst (advocacy group, government agency), intelligence officer (CIA, FBI), diplomat (federal government), strategic planning consultant (private consulting firm, government agency), researcher (federal agency, University, think-tank, advocacy group), marketing associate (private firm), professor (University), survey analyst (polling agency, political campaign), political consultant (campaign headquarters, political party/candidate, media), public relations director, journalist.
