Given that all companies, regardless of size or industry (corporations, partnerships, sole proprietorships, not-for-profit) must undertake some manner of accounting, employment possibilities are abundant. 

Recent graduates are currently employed as staff accountants in CPA firms, financial and management accountants for corporations, controllers for small to medium-sized businesses, financial analysts, accounting managers for larger businesses, and agents for the Internal Revenue Service.

Accounting majors often pursue Certified Public Accountant (CPA) status and the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation. Common career paths include tax research or tax preparation, auditing, management, and cost accounting-related positions. Mount Mercy accounting graduates have gone on to work for companies like RSM McGladrey, Rockwell-Collins, AEGON/Transamerica, Great America Leasing, GE Capital, Alliant Energy, Toyota Financial Services and the Internal Revenue Service.

Mount Mercy has an articulation agreement with the University of Iowa's Master of Accountancy program to facilitate the admission of Mount Mercy graduates into that program.
