Management Information Systems

Management Information Systems (MIS), sometimes referred to as Information Management and Systems, is the discipline covering the application of people, technologies, and procedures—collectively called information systems—to solve business problems.

An MIS Program for Working Adults

Complete your degree in as little as 18-24 months!

Management information systems are distinct from regular information systems in that they are used to analyze other information systems applied in operational activities in the organization.

The accelerated MIS major is ideal for students looking to enter into, or advance their skillsets within these types of positions:

  • IT Project Manager
  • Business Analysis
  • Systems Analyst
  • Agile Scrum Master
  • And many more!

The MIS program, unlike traditional computer science, focuses on the behavioral motivations of customers and end users. We develop interpersonal and business acumen alongside the traditional hard technology skills like coding and project management. While having been a part of some sort of IT project is helpful, any student with an interest in technology, a drive to be constantly learning, and a passion for problem-solving will be successful in the MIS program.

MIS students are most commonly non-technical in their professional lives, which can make the technical courses of the MIS program a new challenge for them. MMU helps students handle these challenges by blending MIS and computer science students into the same classes throughout the program, so that they gain the benefit of learning alongside and from more technically-focused majors. MIS students are highly successful in learning new technical skills through this model.

MMU teaches through hands-on application, including a final project where MIS and computer science students jointly design and develop software that is used by actual customers in local businesses.

The faculty’s coordination of the schedule was a huge asset to me as without it, I would most likely still be working through some classes.
