Visual Arts & Business Administration Program Features

Job Possibilities
Visual arts/business administration majors have their sights set on creative corporate careers. Graduates with a visual arts/business interdisciplinary major can pursue a wide range of career options including gallery management, online marketing, and website management and design.

Internships
Students are encouraged to participate in internship opportunities to gain hands-on experience and a chance to apply classroom education in a real-world environment. Past opportunities have included Frontier, Boy Scouts, GreatAmerica Leasing, Transamerica, Rockwell Collins, and many more. Past internships at art galleries like the Campbell-Steele Gallery have offered students a chance to gain hands-on experience in a diverse fine arts environment. Other students have enjoyed opportunities at performing service and volunteering in the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art or CSPS-Legion Arts working on projects like assisting with art workshops for children or museum fundraisers.

Study Abroad
Mount Mercy has a long history with our sister college Palacky University, in Olomouc, Czech Republic, and many MMU students have spent a semester studying there. Through a partnership with the CIMBA program, business students have the opportunity to student for a semester in Italy. The Business Department has a travel course during winter term every other year, which takes students to England, France and Germany.

Student Clubs
The Art Club is open to all students who share a passion for creative arts. The club takes trips to art centers like the Chicago Art Institute, hosts High School Art Day as a chance to encourage youth to embrace their artistic talent, and auctions student artwork. Visual arts/business administration students may also enjoy Enactus, a club that gives students a chance to draft annual reports for judging by national business executives.
