The Old Stone Store (1897). Photo by Kristy Raine.

The Old Store (1897)
Built by Henry Dearborn in 1897, the old store operated as a public hall, post office,
company quarters, and general store until 1960. Grant Wood rented some of the
upstairs rooms in the 1930s. The store's most recent use was as a pub/restaurant.
Photo by Kristy Raine with the permission of the owner.

Grant Wood is known best for producing one of the icons of American art - American Gothic.  It is a tribute to art and architecture. There are, of course, many other icons in art, architecture and photography. This sample of some of the architectural icons found on the WWW is offered as a lagniappe - a little bit extra. Enjoy. Suggestions for additions are always welcome.
