Founded more than 80 years ago by the Sisters of Mercy and now one of 16 sponsored universities in the Conference for Mercy Higher Education, Mount Mercy offers an education that is grounded in personal, practical, and faith-inspired curriculum. We uniquely blend career preparation and liberal arts, with a strong emphasis in leadership and service learning. Our newly revised core curriculum fully exemplifies this standard, enabling students to experience community outreach and service in ways that directly correlate to their studies on the Hill. I invite you to discover the mission, vision and values of the University, our rich and distinctive heritage as an institution of Mercy, and our projected growth and outreach.
Mount Mercy strives to provide educational opportunities for students of all ages, whether you are a traditional freshman or a working adult. We are proud to serve more than 1,600 traditional, transfer, adult and graduate students. Mount Mercy alumni are known for staying in the community and continuing to impact those around them in their work, houses of worship, and families. Mount Mercy is more than simply an educational institution within the city of Cedar Rapids, but rather, a unique ally in providing career opportunities and retaining resources that are so vital to the growth and advancement of our community.
Ours is an active and engaging campus, with small class sizes that allow students to reach their full potential in an atmosphere of support and mutual collaboration. Students are active in service projects, 15 varsity sports and more than 30 clubs and organizations. We also offer a wide variety of cultural affairs events and theatre performances, which we invite the surrounding community to enjoy with us.
As President, I see in our students the values, skills, and talent to lead in the 21st century. Mount Mercy’s 11,000 alumni are leaders in their communities, professions, and places of worship. Our current students herald a future of similar promise. I thank you for your interest and invite you to learn why Mount Mercy is truly a light on the Hill.
