I have been a member of the Education Division at Mount Mercy since 1985. I came to the college after a number of years teaching at the elementary level and in early childhood programs. My position prior to Mount Mercy was as director of Early Childhood Education programs at Jane Boyd Community House in Cedar Rapids. My academic interests and training include Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Counseling, Special Education, and English Language Learners. I regularly teach classes in Reading and Language Arts, Special Education, and English Language Learners. My outside interests include reading, foreign travel and teaching abroad. I have taught in Kuwait, in Prague, the Czech Republic, in Veliko Tornovo, Bulgaria, and on a Fulbright Grant (1994-95 in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. In addition to international teaching and travel I collect children’s books, especially multicultural ones. Stop by my office (313 Warde) and see my current collection if you get a chance.
