Teaching is my passion, and I am pleased to be teaching at Mount Mercy College where students and teaching are a priority.  I have been teaching at Mount Mercy since 1992 when I competed by graduate work at the University of Iowa.  The collegial spirit among faculty, area professionals, alumni and students is rewarding.  While at The University of Iowa I taught a junior level methods course, advised students and supervised student teachers.  As a teaching assistant at the U of Iowa I was twice awarded for outstanding teaching. Prior to my graduate work I taught kindergarten and Headstart.

I teach a variety of courses including: An Invitation to Teaching, Children’s Literature, Reading/Language Arts Methods, Storytelling, Education Leadership Seminar and supervision of student teachers.  These courses allow me to work with students across all levels of the Teacher Education Program; from freshmen to seniors. The process of taking a journey with each student along their pathway to teaching is gratifying.

Professionally I keep active as a consultant to area schools, attend and present at professional conferences, and work on several projects with the Iowa Department of Education.  I enjoy visit area schools and working with our students and area teachers.

On the home front, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, exercising, knitting, and traveling.  As a family we enjoy movies, photography, and music (old and new) – eclectic would best describe our interest.

My office is filled with children’s books and puppets.  Students are welcome to check out books and puppets to use for course work or for use in area schools.  Please feel free to stop by for a visit and check out what is new in children’s literature.
