I am relatively new to the education division, starting as an adjunct instructor in 2001 before joining full-time in 2005.  My background includes elementary teaching as well as working at a community college.  I hold a BA in Elementary Education and an MA in Middle Grades Mathematics Education.

Those who know me will tell you that I’m passionate about mathematics education.  I want students to feel empowered by their ability to make sense of mathematics, to experience the meaningful integration of conceptual understanding with necessary skills.  My own three children call me their “math curse” since I seem to turn everything into an opportunity for mathematical thinking.  They have a tendency to exaggerate, but I do enjoy looking for mathematical connections.

Currently I am supervising student teachers and teaching Educational Psychology, Middle School Methods, and Science & Mathematics for the Elementary School.   I feel like this is a perfect combination since it combines all of my interests and keeps me reading and growing in all of these areas.  I’m also privileged to work with the Student- Iowa State Education Association (S-ISEA) on campus as their faculty advisor.

When people ask me about my work I tell them I love it!  I am thankful to have been mentored by an extremely talented and dedicated faculty in the education division.  In addition, I have frequent opportunities to really get to know students and share my excitement for learning at all levels.
